First impression:

A 4km farmers walk with the thing got me over my daily exercise goal. Smaller and heavier than it looks. Even after everyone mentioned how heavy it was, it still surprised me.

Second impression:

It’s good. Get one.

A few more thoughts:

  • Siri works when I speak normally, through music playing, from a few rooms over and around corners – sadly my ears are too inferior to hear the response.
  • Sound quality is top notch. Definitely an upgrade from my antique Logitech Z-5500′s, although at this point I think anything would be. Bass is tight and punchy, but doesn’t overwhelm the music.
  • Siri gets things completely wrong just often enough to be Really Annoying. The lack of visual interface for checking the current state of the device feels very frustrating. Each command dims the music too, so even something as simple as “Hey Siri, what’s playing?” feels like such an interruption.
  • Speech-based interfaces feel hamstrung when it’s 10pm and your fiancée is asleep. Added to my iOS 12 wish list: typing to Siri as an option, without turning off the speech UI.
  • Not being able to see my music feels very odd — not sure if this is something I’ll get used to, or if my brain just doesn’t recall lists this way.
  • Asking Siri to play “chill music” works really well, picks a whole bunch of music that I love.
  • No white rings on my bedside table so far. I feel like this is closer to the iPhone 4 antennae saga than anything.
  • It’s loud enough to fill our bedroom and be loud at about 70%, not sure how well it’ll fill the rest of the house.
  • I really miss multi-room audio. Can’t wait to have more than one of these when they support it.
